- Hand-poured concrete
Logifaces started as a game. In 2012 the Budapest team was invited to a game design competition run by MOME, the city's design university, and their concrete puzzle went on to win the Hungarian Design Award. In 2014 an Indiegogo campaign for the Logifaces Original almost doubled its goal. Daniel Lakos is the lead designer, and Logifaces is a small family-owned company.
Concrete was a deliberate choice: the studio wanted an object you'd be proud to leave out on display. In its own words, a passion for contemporary design and the family's Jewish roots came together in handcrafted concrete menorahs. An early design used nine prism-shaped pieces with angled tops, with the shamash the only piece cut flat. The Ripple Menorah, which ModernTribe carries in gray and blue marbled concrete, is hand-poured and made in Hungary, and the concrete lets dripped wax come off easily.
The Judaica line now includes mezuzahs and a seder plate too. The studio also makes custom concrete pieces for clients such as Forbes Hungary and runs concrete-molding workshops.
