Afikomen Bags

An afikomen bag is a small pouch used to hold the afikomen - the piece of matzah that's hidden and searched for by kids (or adults!) during the Passover Seder. Whoever finds it gets to give back to the Seder leader in exchange for a prize, which makes it the most anticipated moment of the night for little ones.

Keep it simple - tell them a piece of matzah has been hidden somewhere in the room, and whoever finds it gets a prize. Most children between ages 3 and 10 absolutely love it, and it's one of the easiest ways to keep them engaged through the Seder.

Make sure it's big enough to fit a half-piece of matzah without breaking it. Beyond that, think about who's using it - a young child will love something colorful and fun, while a beautiful embroidered bag can double as a keepsake for years to come. Durability and ease of opening are worth considering too, especially if little hands will be doing the hiding.

They're perfect for kids. An afikomen bag adds excitement to the hunt and gives kids a sense of ownership over their role in the Seder.

Most families use one, but if you have a big Seder with lots of kids, or like to hide multiple pieces, having two or three bags keeps things interesting. They also make great small gifts to send home with young guests after the Seder.
