Description

Inspired by a Rosh Hashanah mindfulness service and the second verse of Genesis, this design is a visual meditation on tohu vavohu and the transformation brought by Ruah Elohim, the spirit or breath of God. At the base of the tallit is the Hebrew phrase tohu vavohu. As the design rises toward the shoulders, color begins to emerge, accompanied by the phrase Ruah Elohim, symbolizing the divine breath that stirs the world into being.

Down each side flows the full Hebrew verse from Genesis 1:2. It reads in Hebrew:
And the earth was without form, and void [tohu vavohu]; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God [Ruah Elohim] moved upon the face of the waters.
