Downtown Bookworks is an independent New York City children's publisher with the motto "big ideas for little people." President Julie Merberg began her career as an editorial assistant at Simon & Schuster and worked for years as an editor and book packager. She launched Downtown Bookworks as a packager in 2005 and started its children's list in 2010, inspired by raising four boys.
Merberg writes many titles herself, including My First Jewish Baby Book, an A-to-Z of foods, holidays and rituals, and It's a Mitzvah!, rhyming Jewish dos and don'ts from respecting parents to repairing the world, both illustrated by Beck Feiner. Its Jewish list also includes My First Book of Famous Jews and "Nice" Jewish Girls.
