Love some schmear!!
Would love to amuse my guests wearing this sweater at my Thanksgivukah party on the Sunday night after Thanksgiving.
I want my family to be safe this holiday.
Shalom! I found out in 2018 that I am Jewish on my Mother’s side, through a DNA test from Heritage.com. However, my three brothers had their DNA test done through Ancestry.ca and the Jewish heritage didn’t show up on their results, so they don’t take me seriously. I have spent countless hours reading and watching videos on Jewish culture and traditions and would love to have someone to celebrate Hannukah, as well as some of the other Jewish holidays with, but my husband passed away on Feb. 1st of this year and my children are all grown and gone (and have very little interest in this ‘Jewish DNA’ that their mother has.) My husband had Indigenous (Mi’kmaq) ancestry and my children seem to identify with that, along with their other European (French and English) cultures. I became a born-again Christian in 1976 and God gave me a heart for the Jewish people from that day forward. People would ask me if I was Jewish, and not knowing, I would always answer them by saying, “No, but God has given me a Jewish Heart” … (Little did I know!) I send little items to my grandchildren at Hannukah and Passover, as well as a card for L’Shana Tova, explaining the meaning of the apples dipped in honey, but although they thank me for them, they don’t seem interested in knowing any more about the history of the Jewish people. My husband (of 48 years) always understood me and supported me in my love for the Jewish people, but after years of battling Parkinson’s Disease (with dementia, during his last few years) he is now no longer by my side. I live in a small community and I only know one Jewish person – (my family GP, who is soon retiring). Although he has been a great mentor and friend, his wife is Irish Catholic and so in order to ‘keep the peace’, he and his family practice both faiths in their home. I am not interested in anything more than a friendship, but my wish for Hannukah this year would be to find a nice Jewish friend who would be able to share these special times with me. Last year, I lit the candles each night on my Hannukah Menorah and recited the prayers, as well as doing a bit of decorating and buying little dreidels and games for my grandchildren to play with, when they came to visit, but due to Covid-19, nobody showed up. I do have a Messianic Jewish friend who lives 100 miles from me, but she is busy with her large family of 12, after losing her husband (who was the Rabbi of their Messianic Congregation) However, even she doesn’t completely understand me, because although I have a deep respect for the Torah, I don’t observe all of it in my daily life, and that is a requirement for admission into their Congregation. I am a ‘senior’ (66) on a very low, fixed income who is driving an old car (2008) that was found in a local Salvage yard (it had been in an accident and was declared a ‘write-off’ but the owner fixed it up enough for me to drive, but not very far, as it’s not as dependable as it should be), so that keeps me from being able to travel that distance to even worship with their Congregation, even if I don’t qualify for membership. I guess that I am asking that you keep me (and my family) in your prayers, asking that God might send someone into my life who I can enjoy sharing my Jewish heritage with. In the meantime, I love to wear my Jewish ‘Shalom’ sweatshirt, as well as my Jewish Adi watch and have other little Jewish items on display in my home, as ‘conversation pieces,’ so that I can speak out against anti-semitism in the Church today, as well as trying to build bridges between Christians and Jews, so that our local Churches will realize that we owe our faith to the Jewish people and the Bible that we hold so dear was written almost entirely by Jewish people, for Jewish people. The lie of a ‘replacement’ theory is just that – a lie! By God’s grace, we have been grafted into the Vine, but the Jewish people are our elder brothers and sisters, whom God will never leave nor forsake! I do believe and practice the words written in Genesis, that “Whosoever blesses Israel, I will bless and whosoever curses Israel, I will curse” and have been an Abraham member of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews" for many years now. Thank you for listening to my story and if God doesn’t provide me with that special Jewish friend right away, I would be very happy to be the proud owner of the sweater contest! (Womens size 14-16) I don’t know what that would translate to in your sizes, but you can work that out! LOL! :)
Ahava and Brachot to all of you! May the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob bless you richly! … ‘Leah’ xoxo
