What to Bring to a Passover Seder

So you've been invited to a Passover seder. Great! Now what do you bring to a Passover dinner? A Passover seder is a special meal that commemorates the Jewish holiday of Passover. Bringing something to a Passover seder is a thoughtful gesture.

What do you bring to a Passover Seder?

  1. Matzah: Unleavened bread is a central element of Passover. If you want to spend a little more, you could also bring a matzah plate.
  2. Wine or Grape Juice: Four cups of wine (or grape juice) are traditionally consumed during the seder. Or bring a kiddush cup for Elijah!
  3. Seder Plate Item: Offer to bring a traditional part of the seder plate like bitter herbs, hard-boiled eggs, or charoset.
  4. Candles: Passover candles used during the seder ritual or fun decorative candles always make nice Jewish gifts.
  5. Games for the Kids: Passover games or other Passover for kids toys keep kids busy during a long seder.
  6. Passover Host Gifts: A small token like a tea towel, matzah blanket, or pillow to recline in style.

Always check with the host to ensure you're not duplicating items and to accommodate any dietary restrictions. But mostly, don't worry and have fun!

What do you wear to a Passover Seder?

For most gatherings, dressy-casual is perfect. A nice dress or pants for women and a button-down for men. In a more observant household, modest attire is expected, so check with the host if you aren't sure.

How long does a Seder last?

A Passover Seder can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours, so definitely ask the host if you aren't sure, and have a snack before!
