Applesauce or Sour Cream: The Latke Debate

It's the eternal Hanukkah question: applesauce or sour cream on your latkes?
Team Applesauce says the sweetness brings out the savory goodness of the latke and that anything else is meshugge. The cool, fruity bite balances the heavy fried potato. Plus, applesauce is dairy-free — perfect if your latkes are alongside a meat brisket.
Team Sour Cream says richness deserves richness. The tang and cool fat of sour cream amplifies the crispy latke in a way that no fruit ever could. (Also: chives. Don't @ us.)
Of course, the correct answer is BOTH. Put a little of each on your plate and dunk accordingly. Some latkes get the apple treatment, some get the dairy. Variety is the spice of life.
Or: go off-script entirely. Smoked salmon and crème fraîche. Greek yogurt and dill. Caviar (yes, really). Spicy harissa. Apple-horseradish chutney. The latke is a flexible canvas.
Whatever your topping, the most important thing is that the latkes are hot, crispy, and there are way too many of them. Happy Hanukkah!

I voted other because I always do BOTH sour cream and applesauce. It’s so much better than when they are solo.
