Description

In the Seven Species Ketubah the seven native fruits of Israel - wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, dates - connect to form a circle as a powerful reminder of the couple circling each other seven times under the chuppah and the traditional seven blessings. Simple in design but powerful in symbolism, the Seven Species ketubah evokes a feeling of abundance, unity, and growth. The Seven Species design was painted by artist Susie Lubell and professionally photographed to retain the color, vibrancy and richness of the original in reproduction.

The purchase of your ketubah includes the archival print and your personalized or standard text in English. Custom Hebrew text is an additional fee. Frame not included.

Your ketubah will be printed on Epson Somerset archival, Ph-neutral, 255 gsm textured paper free of optical brightening agents. The special top coating of this paper gives it unprecedented precision, contrast and color saturation for a matte medium. Velvet surface for rich details and vibrant color.

We offer traditional Orthodox texts, Ashkenazi and Sephardi. In addition, we offer texts sanctioned by the Conservative movement, the Reform movement, the Renewal movement, Jewish Secular Humanism and several alternatives appropriate for interfaith weddings and same-sex weddings.

Susie Lubell is a self-taught artist and illustrator known for contemporary ketubahs. A California native, she moved with her family to Israel in 2011 and is based in Tzur Hadassah, in the hills outside Jerusalem. She has been painting and designing ketubahs since 2009.

Her style is graphic but warm, with bright, watery color and a hand-painted imperfection she leaves in on purpose. Many designs carry Jewish meaning in their shapes: the seven native fruits of Israel form a circle in her Seven Species ketubah, and Circling draws on the custom of circling at the start of a Jewish wedding. In her broader work she layers vintage materials with acrylics, tissue paper, oil pastels and paint markers, filling scenes with spirited animals, quirky gardens and whimsical buildings.

Her watercolor animal collection is on permanent display at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, and in 2015 she was one of 54 Jewish women artists in The Women of the Book, which debuted at the Jerusalem Biennale.
