Yair Emanuel is an Israeli artist who designs and crafts his Judaica in his Jerusalem studio. Born on Kibbutz Sha'alvim, he grew up in Jerusalem in an Orthodox home and later adopted a more pluralistic approach to Judaism. He trained at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, and while studying in Jerusalem he fell in love with the city and made it his home.
That background shapes the work. His style fuses traditional motifs and ancient Jewish manuscripts with modern and oriental art, and it's easy to spot: vivid, harmonious color and a constant mix of old and new. Scenes of the Old City of Jerusalem recur, as do the seven species of the Land of Israel, especially the pomegranate.
Emanuel works across painted wood, textiles and metal. That range shows up in hand-painted menorahs, candlesticks, kiddush cups and havdalah sets, embroidered challah covers and tallitot, laser-cut and aluminum pieces, and dreidels, plus playful menorahs shaped like cats and dinosaurs.
