Description

Inspired by the promise of new beginnings, the Zera Kiddush Cup draws its form from both the seed pod and the blossoming flower; a celebration of the beauty in every stage of growth, and a reminder that each season of life carries its own blessing.

An open architectural lattice cradles the inner vessel, striking a balance between strength and delicacy that feels protective without any heaviness. Sized to sit comfortably in the hand while holding a full cup of wine, it invites an unhurried, intentional start to Shabbat and holidays.

Designed by architect and Judaica artist Ari Pescovitz using laser-sintered additive manufacturing in stainless steel, each cup is made to order and finished with a refined ceramic shot-tumbled surface that is soft to the touch, with the character of the material shining through.

Craft
Laser-sintered stainless steel Judaica

Ari Pescovitz trained as a silversmith before he trained as an architect. At Indiana University he earned a BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry design, alongside degrees in anthropology and biology. Three works from his undergraduate thesis were published in Lark Books' 500 Judaica. He went on to a Master of Architecture at the University of Cincinnati, where his thesis won an award for excellence in detailing.

For more than a decade he worked in an ornamental metals shop in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, starting as a fabricator and draftsman and later serving as Design Director at Ferra Designs. There he turned architects' intent into stairs, façades and doors. In 2025 one of his duplex stair projects received the Top Job award at the NOMMA convention.

AP Metalworks brings that structural thinking to the Shabbat table. The Bikur Cholim candlesticks can't stand alone: joined by a dovetail, they lean together into a parabolic arch. The Zera kiddush cup cradles its bowl in an open lattice. Both are laser-sintered in stainless steel and made to order in the USA.
