Seed + Mill began with three friends who grew up in three countries: Lisa Mendelson in Israel, Rachel Simons in Australia and Monica Molenaar in the US. They met in New York in 2015 and in January 2016 opened a small kiosk in Chelsea Market, which they describe as the first store in the US dedicated to sesame, grinding tahini to order and serving tahini soft serve. Rachel, who practiced law for 15 years, is co-founder and CEO.
Their halva is made in Israel, certified kosher, plant-based and gluten-free. ModernTribe carries it in gift-ready sets, like the six-flavor Halva Library and trios with pistachio, sea salt dark chocolate, cardamom and toasted sesame.
