Menorah from Poland by Israel Museum
Description
Drawing inspiration from a 20th-century Hanukkah lamp originating from Poland, this piece echoes the designs of medieval Hanukkah lamps from Spain and southern Italy. These designs gradually made their way throughout Europe. While maintaining the distinct triangular form reminiscent of early models meant for wall-hanging, this lamp introduces three legs, allowing for placement on tables or windowsills in accordance with local tradition. A standout feature is the Star of David, emblematic of the burgeoning Zionist movement and a sought-after decorative motif on ceremonial objects in the early 20th century.
