Banana Menorah was born out of necessity. Samantha Weisman, who is Jewish, was visiting her boyfriend Zach Lupei over college winter break when Hanukkah came around with no menorah in sight, so they improvised one from an underripe banana and a chopstick. The banana menorah became their tradition for more than a decade. In 2022, by then married, they stopped sacrificing fruit and launched a permanent version, cast in stainless steel and hand polished. The brand's shop now lives under the name Noshes.
The Jewish jewelry line shrinks the foods at the center of Jewish life into charm necklaces: a braided challah for Shabbat, a bagel, a square of matzah and a matzah ball. Every piece is cast, polished and assembled in the Downtown LA Diamond District, in 14k gold, gold vermeil or sterling silver depending on the charm, and hangs on an 18-inch cable chain. Wear the challah to Friday night dinner and see who asks.
