Mickie Caspi is an Israeli-American artist and calligrapher who has specialized in Judaica since 1980. With her husband, Eran, she founded Caspi Cards & Art in 1990; Eran took over day-to-day management so Mickie could concentrate on the art.
The studio made its name on inclusive ketubah texts. It introduced the first pre-printed interfaith text in 1993, a gender-neutral text for same-sex and straight couples in 1994, and in 2003 an all-English secular humanist text.
Mickie grew up in Highland Park, Illinois, with two artist parents, and first learned Hebrew on Kibbutz Nachshon as a child. After studying art at Columbia College Chicago, she moved to Israel in 1982 and spent seven years as a freelance artist and calligrapher on Kibbutz Harel and in Jerusalem. Her watercolor designs draw on traditional Jewish motifs, Persian and Arabic illumination, art nouveau and art deco, and, as an avid gardener, plenty of flowers and vines. ModernTribe carries her giclée ketubahs in many colorways and sizes, hand-painted original ketubahs, and her annual Jewish Art Calendar, which the studio has produced since 2000.
