Designer Anna Rabinowicz is a product designer by training. She holds Master’s Degrees in Design and Engineering from Stanford University – a program in which she now teaches. Her passion in life is design. Anna has always been interested in the intersection of science and art, and began her career designing prosthetic knees and devices for cardiac bypass surgery. Her love of biology and nature segued into her creation of our company, with its focus on natural materials and biological inspiration.

ANNA New York began in 2002 in Anna Rabinowicz's grandmother's basement in Queens. Her mother and grandmother put the small rubber feet on the bottoms of the first design, agate gemstone coasters, and took charge of shipping. The company is still female-owned and operated, and Rabinowicz's daughter Talia later joined to help with design development.

Rabinowicz came to home design from an unusual direction. She holds master's degrees in engineering and art from Stanford, designed prosthetic knees and devices for cardiac surgery, and taught at Stanford and Parsons School of Design, with a focus on biologically inspired design. Her Lumino coasters, slices of agate edged in silver or gold, were carried by the Museum of Modern Art stores and Barneys New York.

For the Jewish home, her Coluna collection sets Italian Carrara marble against gold or silver finishes in menorahs and kiddush cups, joined by a sculptural dual seder plate.
