Our ceramic products are fired to an extremely high temperature for strength and durability. On rare occasions, small areas in the kiln do not reach full firing temperature, and may leave a very slight glaze on a product, detectable as tiny hair-line cracks in the later months. This does not affect the strength or quality of the product in any way.
We recommend that our ceramic pieces be hand washed in warm soapy water.
Our acrylic products are laser cut, digitally printed and assembled by hand. The printing is further protected with a layer of cork.
Acrylic can be scratched easily, so extra care in handling is needed to prevent damage. To clean the acrylic, we recommend that you wipe it with a moist, soft microfibre cloth only. Avoid ammonia based products, acetone, alcohol and lactic acid. Do not use anything that is abrasive as it will leave scratches.
Do not submerge the item in water, as this will damage the cork.
Made in South Africa.

Chai Modern is a Cape Town design studio that makes traditional Judaica in a simple, fresh and modern way. The name is the idea: chai means life, and the studio sets out to bring that to modern Jewish families. Everything is made in South Africa and shipped around the world.
Its collections carry Yiddish names like Mensch, Chutzpah, Oy Vey and Zilch, and are worked in ceramic, wood and metal, acrylic, eco resin and wire, from menorahs, candlesticks and challah boards to seder plates, matzah covers and tallit bags. Chai Modern pieces have also been sold by the Jewish Museum shop in New York and by Maisonette.
