Based in

Since
2018
Craft
Hand-blown recycled glass

Bryan Goldfeder, known as BGOLD, came to glass from ceramics, with a music degree on upright bass from CU Denver along the way. He began apprenticing with John Hudnut at the Gather House in Frisco, Colorado, in 2012, learned from Pat and Spooner at Prairie Glass in Santa Fe, and attends summer sessions at the Pilchuck Glass School. BGOLD Glass Studio opened in Boulder in June 2018.

The studio collects scrap glass from other Colorado studios and remelts it into lighting, vessels and ritual Judaica, thousands of pounds of it so far. He calls his outlook "mindful materialism" and ties the work to tikkun olam, repairing a broken world by making something whole from broken shards.

That idea shapes his wedding smash glass, which has a base the same thickness as its walls so it shatters cleanly. Afterward, the shards can become a hand-blown glass mezuzah on repurposed wood, bound with wire shaped into a shin. BGOLD is now based in Lafayette, on the eastern edge of Boulder County, where he is building a new studio.
