Description
Please note: All s'chach mats are FINAL SALE. Please double-check the size and quantity your sukkah needs before ordering. Discounts and rush shipping not applicable.
Every kosher sukkah needs its s'chach, the natural roof covering that lets the stars peek through, and these bamboo mats are the easy way to get it right.
Made from premium natural bamboo by The Sukkah Project
®, they meet halachic standards while staying light enough to roll out and set in place on your own. Lay them across your sukkah's roof slats, and you've got a covering that handles the weather and rolls back up for simple storage year after year.
- Premium natural bamboo, with sturdy bamboo support sticks woven in every two feet for stability
- Certified kosher - choose Star-K (weatherproof monofilament weave) or Mehadrin (natural raffia weave, certified to the strict Badatz standard)
- Lightweight and easy to roll out, set in place, and roll back up for compact storage
- Reusable year after year with proper care
- Pairs with sukkah, sold separately
Match the size and quantity of your mats to your sukkah:
Mats roll out parallel to the roof slats - the first dimension is the width, the second is the length the mat rolls out to.

- Hand-assembled sukkah kits
In the late 1980s, Rabbi Steve Sager of Beth El Synagogue in Durham, North Carolina, asked Steve Herman to design a simple sukkah kit for congregants who had never built anything. In 1996 (5757) Steve and his wife Judith launched The Sukkah Project®. Steve's nephew Abram took over in 2015 and moved the business to Colorado, settling in Grand Junction in 2017. It is still family-owned, and every kit is still assembled by hand in the USA. The tubular kit at ModernTribe uses pre-cut galvanized steel tubing and welded corner fittings, with mesh or canvas walls. In 2026 Abram launched The Sukkah Foundation to give free sukkahs to families who couldn't otherwise afford one.
