- Mixed-media abstract painting
Sharon Feldstein is a self-taught contemporary painter based in Atlanta, Georgia. She was raised in New York City, descended from Jewish immigrants from Poland and Russia, and grew up around family storytelling, which still runs through her work.
She came to painting after an MBA and a career as a freelance small-business and nonprofit design consultant and graphic designer. She later founded Storysquares, a handmade wall décor line that led to her becoming an internationally licensed artist, before committing fully to painting.
Her mixed-media canvases combine abstraction with symbols, numbers and fragments of text; she describes them as "painted short stories." Many of her Jewish pieces begin with research into a tradition or moment of history. The prints ModernTribe has carried show the range: "Chai Life" plays on the number 18, "The Shema" and "Why Is This Night Different?" take on prayer and Passover, and "O Jerusalem" is a mosaic-style cityscape, each reproduced from originals built with palette knife, acrylic, oil pastel and pencil. She names Rothko, Krasner, Chagall and Klee among her influences, and she is a member of the American Guild of Judaic Art and the Alpharetta Arts Guild.
