Rae Dunn studied industrial design at Fresno State and was working as a waitress when a coin flip sent her into a clay class at San Francisco's Sharon Art Studio in 1994. She launched her ceramics brand in 1995, and in 2003 a licensing deal with Magenta took her look into mass production: white and cream pieces carrying one or two words in her delicate, hand-drawn lettering, shaped by the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi.
ModernTribe carries the Hanukkah side of the licensed line, made by the home decor company DesignStyles: a Happy Hanukkah gnome holding a wooden dreidel, in two versions, and a Live, Love, Latke plush gnome.
