- Hand-cast terrazzo concrete
pretti.cool started in 2017, when a handful of Houston creatives, self-described 90s kids, wanted an excuse to make things together. Husband and wife Kathrine Zeren Gilmer and Jeff Gilmer are among the co-founders. Kathrine designed for Abercrombie and taught high school art before co-founding it. The look borrows the bright colors and geometric shapes of Memphis design.
The studio pours and finishes its terrazzo in-house. The menorahs at ModernTribe are cast one at a time from custom rubber molds, in cobalt or white, with the color mixed into the concrete rather than painted on, so every piece comes out a little different. It also takes custom work, including guest-room pieces for Houston's Greenleigh hotel.
