Kamsah was founded in 2015 by brothers Dhia and Firas Rabiai, who come from Tunisia. Dhia, a Chapman University MBA, noticed how much travelers love bringing artisan crafts home from vacation, and the brothers opened their first Kamsah shop on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, importing handmade pieces from village artisans. The name riffs on the hamsa, the five-fingered hand that the brand traces back almost 3,000 years as a Mediterranean sign of protection.
That hand is their signature. Kamsah's hamsa serving sets are hand-carved and hand-painted in Tunisia from European white clay with mineral-based dyes, and they come apart into separate dishes shaped like the fingers and palm, for dips, olives and nuts. The brand says its blue glazes evoke the skies over Djerba, the Tunisian island that is home to the historic El Ghriba synagogue.
Beyond the table, Kamsah introduces the artisans it works with by name, like Hamma, who has woven baskets in Nabeul for more than 50 years, and Besma, who stitches fine linens in Enfidha. At ModernTribe you'll find the Bohemian Blue Hamsa Dipping and Serving Set.
