- Handmade stoneware and porcelain
Nina Keramik is the studio of Swedish ceramicist Nina, who makes handmade stoneware and porcelain in her studio in Gustavsberg, including a Judaica line of seder plates, Star of David and Chai trinket dishes, and star-shaped Shabbat tealight holders.
Gustavsberg, just east of Stockholm, has been home to a famous porcelain factory since the 1820s, so the setting fits. Nina throws on the wheel, rolls out slabs and casts in molds, and because every piece is made by hand, each one varies a little. Many carry text: her seder plates name the symbolic foods in Hebrew and English, and on some pieces she hand-paints the details and rims in 22k gold. ("Keramik" is simply Swedish for ceramics.)
Alongside Judaica for Hanukkah and Passover, she makes everyday plates, bowls, cups and vases, plus personalized pieces with custom text. Her work is sold through the Jewish Museum Shop in New York, the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and the Jewish Museum and Bajit in Stockholm.
