Description
This stunning Medium Tree of Life Menorah by Liz Lauter is colorful and detailed on both sides with birds, leaves, fruit, flowers and more. A truly unique heirloom piece you will want to display all year. Handmade in California, Liz's art is inspired by her garden, decorative designs from the Middle East, and folk art from Mexico. Each one is hand-sculpted from terracotta clay and fired in the kiln. The menorah is then dipped in a white opaque glaze and hand-painted with ceramic glazes from Italy.

Liz Lauter is a California ceramic artist based in West Marin, north of San Francisco, who makes colorful, hand-painted Judaica. "Creating Judaica is like bringing the most honored guest to a celebration," she has said. Her Judaica is an expression of her Jewish roots growing up in multicultural San Francisco, surrounded by Mexican folk art and Italian culture.
She started young, learning ceramics at 11, and later studied art and botany, finishing a BFA at UC Davis in 1978. From 1984 to 1988 she lived in Israel, studying garment design at Bezalel in Jerusalem and running a fashion studio there. She taught high-school ceramics at Redwood High School in Larkspur from 2000 to 2019, studied majolica ceramics in Deruta, Italy in 2018, and retired in 2019 to focus on her studio.
Her menorahs and seder plates draw on the Arbol de la Vida, the Mexican Tree of Life, painted on both sides with birds, leaves, fruit and flowers. At ModernTribe that means Tree of Life menorahs in several sizes, a Long Menorah, and a Seven Species seder plate set.
