Carolyn Rafaelian grew up in the jewelry trade: her father opened the Cinerama jewelry factory in Rhode Island the year she was born. In 2004 she launched Alex and Ani, named for her first two daughters. After leaving that company in 2020, she launched &LIVY in December 2023, named for her third daughter, Alivia, known as Livy. The brand is made in Rhode Island from recycled metals, and its pieces are nickel-free, tarnish-resistant and adjustable. The Star of David necklace at ModernTribe hangs on a slider chain that runs from choker to 28 inches, in a gold finish with an extra-heavy layer of 22k gold or a rhodium silver finish.
