Leah Singer was born in Ann Arbor, grew up in El Paso and studied Spanish and communication at the University of Texas at San Antonio before moving to San Diego, where she raised her family. Her first collection, in 2015, was hand-cut 14k gold name jewelry, sold at first to friends and family. The business began as LeahJessica Jewelry, a partnership with her childhood friend Jessica Abu, and today carries Leah's name.
Heirlooms run through her work. After her mother died in 2017, Leah reset diamonds from one of her mother's rings into three 14k gold bangles bearing her children's initials.
The Hebrew name necklaces are the showpiece. Each name is sketched by hand, then every letter is sawn from solid 14k gold with a jeweler's blade under magnification and filed smooth in San Diego's Diamond District, work that can take several hours. ModernTribe carries those necklaces in yellow, white or rose gold, with or without a bezel-set diamond, plus a mini 14k Magen David and a tiny gold hamsa on sapphire beads.
