Prep Obsessed was Nina Vitalino's idea. She pitched it to her best friend Corey O'Loughlin while Corey was nine months pregnant: there was no single place to shop for gifts, clothes and jewelry, so why not build one for the busy woman? When they launched in April 2013 as an after-hours side hustle, Nina was a post-op cardiac nurse and Corey a full-time online marketer. Their first collection sold out within an hour.
At first Prep Obsessed was strictly Facebook, with no website and no store, and it grew on biweekly flash sales. The two shipped orders from their dining rooms, added a website, outgrew one warehouse after another and eventually left their day jobs. A storefront in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida came last.
Accessories became the top sellers, and the boutique is best known for its own jewelry line, which it also sells to independent retailers. For Hanukkah that means small enamel studs, a blue dreidel and a blue-and-gold menorah, on lead-compliant, nickel-free posts.
