Maria Dueñas Jacobs was accessories director at Elle and later director of brand development at Stitch Fix. Her three daughters kept reaching for Mom's jewelry instead of kids' pieces, and in 2019, working from her apartment, she launched Super Smalls for children roughly 3 to 13.
The brand began with jewelry and has since added pretend beauty like face gems and lip balm necklaces. Her oldest daughter, Luna, calls herself the Kid-in-Chief. She dreamed up the Mermaid Pool Party Necklace after collecting shells at the beach, and the team made it from her sketch.
