Seeka is the work of Israeli artists Nachshon Peleg and Stavit Allweis, whose love story started when they met in New York. Both graduated from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and they launched Seeka in 1997 from a home studio while raising a young family.
Nachshon brings the technical side to the old craft of Judaica, and Stavit brings playful strokes of color and a liberal use of found objects. Each piece starts as a precision-cut stainless steel frame. The design inside is hand-painted, then filled with materials from metals and glass to dyed seeds and found objects, set with semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals, and sealed under a thick layer of acrylic resin. Because every piece is finished by hand, no two come out exactly alike.
They make mezuzahs, necklaces, pins, earrings and dreidels in their New York studio, from tree of life and dove mezuzahs to chai and hamsa pendants, each one closer to a tiny painting than a standard charm.
