Cynthia Gale designs sterling silver jewelry in New York, and she came to it by an unusual route. In 1989 she was working in Europe as a fashion model when she booked a runway show in Jakarta and fell in love with the art and jewelry making of Indonesia. In 1991 she launched her line under the name GeoArt, working closely with Balinese artisans to develop her signature style.
Traditional metalwork runs through her designs, including repoussé in her Signature Collection. In 2000 she began licensing partnerships with museums and cultural institutions, which have grown to more than fifteen, and in 2013 the company became Cynthia Gale, with GeoArt as one of its sub-brands. Her pieces for ModernTribe have included Jewish Museum Star of David and Torah finial necklaces, with a portion of each purchase going to support the museum, as well as licensed Grateful Dead bracelets and cufflinks.
