- Colored pencil prints; handmade porcelain
Beth Mueller was born in rural Indiana, and her work still reaches back there. Her goal is to make objects like the ones she remembers from her Indiana childhood: the quilts, yarns and beautiful bottles on her grandmother's farm. She earned a BA from Eckerd College and learned printmaking while working at Studio Santa Reparata in Florence, Italy. After graduating she served a two-year apprenticeship in the pottery studio of John Glick. Before becoming a full-time studio artist she was a camp counselor, a housing-shelter supervisor, a waitress, a bartender and a French teacher, "not necessarily in that order."
She now designs and makes prints, stationery and pottery in Barre, Vermont, where her ceramics studio is about half a mile from home. Her cards are printed from her original colored pencil drawings. Her square notes and enclosure cards use 100% recycled paper, and all her envelopes and packaging are recycled content.
At ModernTribe you'll find her Hanukkah card packs, with latkes, a menorah and a party. Her work is sold in galleries and museum shops around the country and is held in private and museum collections.
