Although there are many greetings given during Rosh Hashanah such as "Happy New Year", one of Flora Rosefsky's favorites is "May you be inscribed in the book of life." These are powerful and significant words as we hold onto an image of an imaginary book that gets sealed when Yom Kippur ends. What will happen in the next twelve months is a mystery who shall live, who shall die"..who shall be poor who shall be rich and so forth. During the Neilah or closing service of Yom Kippur, when the ten days of awe have ended, we pray that ones name and those we love, will be inscribed in the book of life.
