Shema Yisrael (Listen Israel) are the first two words of the most important prayer in Judaism that proclaims G-d is one. The Shema is recited twice daily during morning and evening Jewish prayer services. This is a special piece and would especially nice for a bar or bat mitzvah.
The 1" diameter sterling silver pendant is on a 16" ball chain. Handmade by Marla, a metalsmith from Rhode Island School of Design.
The first line of the Shema is:
Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad.
Listen Israel the Lord is our G-d the Lord is One.
The literal word meanings are roughly as follows:
- Shema - listen, or hear and "act on"
- Yisrael - Israel, as in the people of Israel
- Adonai - often translated as "Lord"
- Eloheinu - our God
- Echad - the Hebrew word for the absolute number one
